About Gerald Denson, Jr.

Gerald Lydell Denson, Jr., born August 21, 2000, is a native of Dallas, Texas. In the earlier years of his life, he was exposed to music through his involvement in church choirs. At the then known, Forest Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, much of his time apart from Scouting and his school life was spent in the church. In participating in church choirs, his ear was being developed constantly.

Later on he developed an interest into percussion and playing the drums. This would be his bridge that would connect him to his present day involvement in band. Though, he would not continue as a percussionist, he entered middle school at W.E. Greiner Exploratory Arts Academy in Dallas, Texas as a Tuba Player. Here, he became more and more interested in learning about the Arts, and more specifically, Music. He would play any instrument that he could get his hands on. This energy and passion for music continued into his high school career at the prestigious Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.

Here he would grow to love teaching music and performing music even more so that he had before. He was heavily involved with the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra Primarily. He also participated in several All-School Musicals, Opera Orchestra, Midi-Ensemble, Big Band, Mariachi, Latin American Ensemble, and Gospel Choir, all while continuing to sing in church choir, now at Concord Church in Dallas, Texas. His primary instrument would become the  Euphonium, while doubling on Trombone and gaining experience on Piano in the  Jazz, Contemporary, and Classical Piano mediums. He graduated from the Music Conservatory in 2018.

After graduating from Booker T. in 2018, he went on to peruse his Bachelor's in Music Education from Texas A&M University- Commerce. He was introduced to the foreign world of the marching arts during his freshman year when he joined the illustrious 'Pride' Marching Band at A&M Commerce. He would become the Principal Euphonium of the Symphonic Band later moving the be the Principal Euphonium of the A&M Commerce Wind Ensemble, the premier band at the University. After graduating from TAMUC, he plans to continue in teaching music in public schools, arranging music for his students, and performing as a pianist and Euphonium player, hopefully to one day obtain his doctorate in Music Education.
